Visiting

Visa-free for up to 90 days. Travel on a passport valid for your whole stay, with a return or onward ticket and proof you can support yourself.

Passport validity:Passport valid for at least 6 months on arrival is generally required.

Heads-up:A 2026 immigration overhaul (in force from 16 February 2026) largely ended visa-on-arrival for many nationalities and expanded the prior-authorisation consulted visa, with an electronic visa portal launched in March 2026; check your nationality before travel.

At the border:Tourist card (around 10 USD), proof of sufficient funds and onward or return travel may be requested at the border.

Working remotely

No dedicated nomad visa; the usual route is a standard residence permit.

Tax and residency

You are generally treated as a tax resident after staying more than 180 days in a calendar year, but Nicaragua uses a territorial system so foreign-source income is generally outside the local tax net (estimate, confirm with the DGI).(estimate)

The UK decides residence with its Statutory Residence Test (days in the UK plus your ties). As a non-resident you are usually taxed only on UK income; where one exists, a double-tax treaty with the destination decides who taxes what.

Practical

Currency:NIO. Cost of living:low.

Healthcare:Public care is limited, so most foreigners rely on private clinics or hospitals (mainly in Managua) and carry private or international health insurance.

Driving:An International Driving Permit alongside your home licence is recommended for short stays; residents are expected to obtain a Nicaraguan licence.
