Visiting

You need an e-visa. Apply online before you travel and carry the approval. It is usually quick, but leave a few days of buffer.

Passport validity:Passport valid for at least 6 months from your date of arrival.

At the border:Visa (most travellers use the eVisa), proof of yellow fever vaccination (carry the original certificate), and you may be asked for accommodation details, a return ticket and proof of funds; a departure tax applies on exit.

Working remotely

No dedicated nomad visa; the usual route is a standard residence permit.

Tax and residency

You are generally treated as resident if you have a permanent home or your main personal and economic interests in DR Congo, or you spend more than 183 days there in a year; residents are taxed on income while non-residents are taxed on Congo-source income only, so foreign income treatment can be complex and is worth checking with a local adviser.(estimate)

The UK decides residence with its Statutory Residence Test (days in the UK plus your ties). As a non-resident you are usually taxed only on UK income; where one exists, a double-tax treaty with the destination decides who taxes what.

Practical

Currency:CDF. Cost of living:mid.

Healthcare:Public healthcare is very limited, so foreigners should carry comprehensive international insurance with medical evacuation cover and rely on private clinics in Kinshasa.

Driving:An International Driving Permit alongside your national licence is strongly recommended, and roads outside major cities are often poor and best driven with local knowledge.
