Visiting

You need an e-visa. Apply online before you travel and carry the approval. It is usually quick, but leave a few days of buffer.

Passport validity:Passport valid at least 6 months beyond your stay with blank pages for stamps.

Heads-up:An official eVisa platform (evisa.sy) has been announced but is not yet fully operational; rules may change with the transitional government (estimate).

At the border:Visa (on arrival at some land borders or pre-arranged for air travel), proof of onward plans, and cash USD for visa fees; entry is refused to anyone with Israeli stamps or nationality.

Working remotely

No dedicated nomad visa; the usual route is a standard residence permit.

Tax and residency

Tax is broadly territorial: Syrian-source income is taxed regardless of residence, and foreign-source income is generally not taxed, though residents may face wider reporting obligations (estimate, re-check).(estimate)

The UK decides residence with its Statutory Residence Test (days in the UK plus your ties). As a non-resident you are usually taxed only on UK income; where one exists, a double-tax treaty with the destination decides who taxes what.

Practical

Currency:SYP. Cost of living:low.

Healthcare:No reciprocal cover for foreigners and public facilities are strained after years of conflict, so comprehensive private insurance with evacuation cover is essential.

Driving:Carry an International Driving Permit alongside your home licence; you must be at least 18 and hold valid third-party insurance.
