Visiting

You can get a visa on arrival. Carry the fee and the documents the border asks for, and confirm the current rules before you fly.

Passport validity:Passport usually needs to be valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay.

At the border:Passport plus, where required, an e-visa printout; many nationalities including EU, US, UK, Canada, Australia and Japan get up to 30 days visa free, and a separate GBAO permit is needed for the Pamir region.

Working remotely

No dedicated nomad visa; the usual route is a standard residence permit.

Tax and residency

You are generally a tax resident if you spend 183 days or more in Tajikistan within any 12 month period, and residents are taxed on worldwide income while non residents pay only on Tajik sourced income (estimate, confirm current rules).(estimate)

The UK decides residence with its Statutory Residence Test (days in the UK plus your ties). As a non-resident you are usually taxed only on UK income; where one exists, a double-tax treaty with the destination decides who taxes what.

Practical

Currency:TJS. Cost of living:low.

Healthcare:Public healthcare is basic and limited outside Dushanbe, so foreigners should rely on private clinics and carry travel and medical evacuation insurance.

Driving:Carry an International Driving Permit (1968 version) alongside your home licence, as foreign licences are typically accepted only for short stays.
