Visiting

You need a visa, arranged at a consulate before you travel. Plan ahead: gather the documents, book the appointment, and allow time for processing.

Passport validity:Passport typically valid at least six months beyond intended departure.

Heads-up:Yemen launched a limited e-Visa system on 24 June 2025, but it is currently open only to group tourist applications filed by accredited travel agencies.

At the border:Visa (entry generally suspended except for select cases), passport, photos, return or onward ticket, and a medical certificate of freedom from infectious diseases.

Working remotely

No dedicated nomad visa; the usual route is a standard residence permit.

Tax and residency

You are generally treated as resident if you have a permanent home in Yemen or stay at least 183 days, and residents are taxed on worldwide income while non-residents are taxed only on Yemen-source income (estimate, verify with the tax authority).(estimate)

The UK decides residence with its Statutory Residence Test (days in the UK plus your ties). As a non-resident you are usually taxed only on UK income; where one exists, a double-tax treaty with the destination decides who taxes what.

Practical

Currency:YER. Cost of living:low.

Healthcare:Years of conflict have left medical facilities severely limited, so foreigners should carry their own medicines and comprehensive evacuation insurance.

Driving:An International Driving Permit alongside your national licence is advisable, but most governments warn against all travel and driving in Yemen due to conflict and kidnapping risk.
