Visiting

Visa-free for up to 180 days. Travel on a passport valid for your whole stay, with a return or onward ticket and proof you can support yourself.

Passport validity:Passport or accepted travel document should be valid for at least 90 days beyond the intended stay.

At the border:Passport or accepted travel document, plus possible proof of onward travel and sufficient funds (around MOP5,000 for stays up to 7 days, scaling up for longer stays); many nationalities get visa-free entry or a visa on arrival.

Working remotely

No dedicated nomad visa; the usual route is a standard residence permit.

Tax and residency

Macao taxes on a territorial basis, so only income from work or activity performed in Macao is taxed (employment via progressive Professional Tax up to roughly 12 percent); foreign-source income such as overseas dividends or remote work for a foreign employer is generally not taxed.(estimate)

The UK decides residence with its Statutory Residence Test (days in the UK plus your ties). As a non-resident you are usually taxed only on UK income; where one exists, a double-tax treaty with the destination decides who taxes what.

Practical

Currency:MOP. Cost of living:mid.

Healthcare:Public healthcare is heavily subsidised mainly for residents, so non-residents and newcomers should carry private or international health insurance and expect to pay or use private clinics.

Driving:Visitors can drive on a valid full home licence, but an International Driving Permit is recommended unless the licence is in Chinese, Portuguese, English or French; long stays over one year require a local Macao licence.
