Visiting

Visa-free for up to 90 days. Travel on a passport valid for your whole stay, with a return or onward ticket and proof you can support yourself.

Passport validity:Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry, with at least 3 blank pages.

At the border:Proof of host or accommodation address and a return ticket or sufficient funds; visitors get a free 90 day stay within any 12 month period, and visa nationals can usually get a visa on arrival (single entry about US$25).

Working remotely

No dedicated nomad visa; the usual route is a standard residence permit.

Tax and residency

You are generally treated as tax resident if you are ordinarily resident in Zambia or present for more than 183 days in the tax year; residents are taxed on Zambian source income plus certain foreign income such as foreign interest and dividends, so check your situation before relying on this.(estimate)

The UK decides residence with its Statutory Residence Test (days in the UK plus your ties). As a non-resident you are usually taxed only on UK income; where one exists, a double-tax treaty with the destination decides who taxes what.

Practical

Currency:ZMW. Cost of living:low.

Healthcare:There is no free public cover for foreigners and care outside cities can be limited, so comprehensive private health insurance with medical evacuation is strongly recommended.

Driving:Carry an International Driving Permit alongside your home licence; stays beyond 90 days require an IDP or a Zambian licence.
