Visiting

Visa-free for up to 90 days. Travel on a passport valid for your whole stay, with a return or onward ticket and proof you can support yourself.

Passport validity:Validity rule varies by passport: UK passports must be issued within 10 years of arrival and valid at least 3 months beyond departure; US and Indian travellers are advised to hold at least 6 months validity.

Heads-up:EU ETIAS pre-authorisation (about 20 euros for most adults, not a visa) is expected to launch in the last quarter of 2026 with a transitional grace period; the Schengen EES does not apply because Cyprus is outside the Schengen area.

At the border:Border officials can ask for proof of onward or return travel, sufficient funds, accommodation and travel insurance.

Healthcare:Cyprus has a national General Healthcare System (GESY), but most foreigners need private or travel health insurance until they hold a residence permit and contribute.

Healthcare agreement:A UK GHIC or valid EHIC covers medically necessary state healthcare for short visits, but not in the north of the island.

Driving:Cyprus drives on the left and an International Driving Permit is recommended alongside your national licence.

Should you move to Cyprus?

Cyprus is a good fit if you want EU access, sun pretty much all year, and a place where English carries you a long way. Limassol is the main expat and nomad hub. Nicosia and Paphos are the quieter alternatives. Costs sit in the mid band, cheaper than London or Berlin, but don’t picture a bargain island. Limassol rents have climbed fast, so budget for the real numbers.

Cyprus visa and entry

Yes, Cyprus runs a dedicated Digital Nomad Visa, and it is actively taking applications. The headline number is around EUR 3,500 net a month, and you need to be working for an employer or clients based outside Cyprus, not selling into the local market. If you hold an EU or EEA passport, skip all of this: you can simply register to live and work. The dedicated route is really aimed at non-EU nomads. Before you apply, double-check the current quota and document list, since both move.

Tax residency and what to check

You generally become a Cyprus tax resident if you spend more than 183 days there in a calendar year. There’s also a 60-day route if Cyprus is your main base, you keep a home and economic ties here, and you aren’t tax resident anywhere else (from 2026 you no longer have to prove non-residence elsewhere, which made this easier). The non-dom regime is the big draw: as a non-domiciled resident, foreign dividends and most passive interest sit outside Cyprus income tax for up to 17 years. Treat all of this as an estimate and get advice tailored to your situation before you rely on it.
