Visiting

Visa-free for up to 90 days. Travel on a passport valid for your whole stay, with a return or onward ticket and proof you can support yourself.

Passport validity:Passport should be valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area, issued within the last ten years, with two blank pages.

Heads-up:The EU Entry/Exit System (EES) is rolling out for short stays, requiring biometric registration (fingerprints and photo) at the border, and ETIAS pre-travel authorisation is expected for visa-exempt non-EU visitors from late 2026.

At the border:Valid passport, and proof of onward travel, accommodation and sufficient funds may be requested for non-EU short stays.

Working remotely

No dedicated nomad visa; the usual route is a standard residence permit.

Tax and residency

You are generally treated as tax resident if you have a permanent home, stay continuously for at least six months, or keep essential ties to Sweden, and residents are taxed on worldwide income while non-residents are taxed only on Swedish-source income.(estimate)

The UK decides residence with its Statutory Residence Test (days in the UK plus your ties). As a non-resident you are usually taxed only on UK income; where one exists, a double-tax treaty with the destination decides who taxes what.

Practical

Currency:SEK. Cost of living:mid.

Healthcare:EU/EEA visitors can use a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for care on the same terms as residents; others should carry private travel or expat health insurance.

Driving:Short-term visitors may drive on a valid foreign licence (an IDP is handy and may be asked for by car-hire firms), but a non-EEA licence usually stops being valid once you have been a registered resident for more than one year.
